As an installation tool, the N-899 Tone Generator can be found in installer’s tool boxes all over the world. We recently asked installers how we could improve the Tone Generator – and we listened. First, many busy installers did not always remember to turn off the N-899 after use. This situation killed the battery life. So we added an Automatic – Off circuit that automatically shuts the Tone Generator off after 5 minutes or so. The 9-Volt battery (not included) will last and last and last…

Next, we were asked about beefing up the alligator-clipped leads. Again we listened to our customers and jumped from #22 AWG Insulated Test Lead cables up to huge #18 AWG cables. Still the same great product – ONLY NOW – IT’S BETTER. We also added a completely regulated internal power supply. By incorporating a regulated power supply, the battery can be drained completely before performance is sacrificed. 

The multi-tasking N-899F can be used in car, pro, and home audio applications -- including locating telephone lines. This is the perfect tool for debugging and troubleshooting car audio systems. First check the speakers, then the speaker leads, then the passive crossovers, etc. Next use the N-899F’s pre-amp outputs to test the power amplifier, electronic crossover, and/or equalizers with the easy to recognize 1000 Hz tone. Finally, check out the signal cables and the deck by substituting your N-899F at the beginning of the system. This tool can easily pay for itself the first time you use it. The N-899F is a great tool for all installers and every installer needs at least one Tone Generator in his/her toolbox.

Connections:
1) Pull cap with switch off and insert a fresh 9 Volt DC Battery.
2) Push top button to activate N899F.
3) Speaker level signal (5 Volts) on Alligator clipped Leads
4) Pre-amp level signal (100 mV @ 1 kHz) on RCA leads.
5) N899 will automatically shut off in approximately 5 minutes.

The N-898 is a small, battery operated, test generator for checking amps, speakers, speaker leads, crossovers, equalizers, etc. It measures 1” x2.3”x2.8” and has 6” alligator clipped leads for driving speakers and a male RCA lead for feeding pre-amp level components. The output is continuously variable from 0 u to around 8 volts and the frequency is continuously variable from around 50 Hz up to 10 kHz. The N-898 runs on a 9-volt battery and features an “Auto-Off” circuit that cuts the battery power after 5 minutes.  This versatile signal generator can check passive or active crossovers and is great for debugging noise problems.
